Eururalis 3.0 is a discussion support system which aims to strengthen the global and regional dimensions
in policy impact assessment. Eururalis 3.0 is guided by the recent policy developments in the
Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), World Trade Organization (WTO), Renewable Energy Directive (RED)
and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD). Regional and global dimensions
are on focus. An important feature of the EURURALIS toolbox is the consistent linkage between economic and
biophysical domains and the linkage between global and local scales. Results of the project
are the development and implementation of innovative methodologies for policy assessment
(e.g. new agro-biodiversity indicator, spatial policies) and the assessment of the impact
of the mentioned policies on people, planet and profit indicators.
New aspects of Eururalis 3.0 are:
the inclusion of strategic EU policy options on the future of the CAP, biofuels (RED) and
Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation policies (REDD). For each of the scenarios
the impact of these policy options can be assessed on a set of People, Planet and Profit indicators
as well as on land-use.
new biodiversity indicator is presented that is targeted specifically at biodiversity in
agricultural areas
the downscaling of information from country level to the level of European regions. This gives
policy makers better understanding of the relevance of future policy and driving forces for their
region and also shows the regions that lead or that lag behind.
the improved interactivity. Users can themselves browse the outcomes for different indicators
and different scenarios. The results will be presented in maps and graphs and with explanatory text.
the better treatment of trade offs which offers insight in trade off’s between regions, between
Europe and other continents (global indicators) and between indicators.
